Stone fruit is seeing its market grow yearly, with increasing demand and differentiation in the production of new varieties.
For example, since 1980 alone, over 600 unique types of apricots have been developed worldwide, 71 in Italy alone.
Stone fruit production area
The leading Italian stone fruit production areas of Novafruit are concentrated in the North, in particular in the region of Piedmont. Here, we process yellow-fleshed peaches, nectarines, white-fleshed apricots and nectarines; among these items, our most significant export volumes concern plums.
Regarding peaches and nectarines, despite the efforts, professionalism and care in the production and packaging, the high perishable nature of these fruits inevitably leads us to a limitation in volumes for sea shipments.
It is not the case with plums, which, thanks to excellent resistance and shelf life, allows us to send these fruits to destinations with transits longer than two weeks.
When the exportation takes place via container overseas, we specialise in transporting Angeleno plums, which are very resistant to these long trips that require several days of travel.
The seasonality of this fruit generally lasts from September to December
Beyond national borders we can supply our receivers also from Spain, with mixed containers of stone fruit for the whole summer season, starting from June. Also, from Spain, we offer flat peaches, nectarines, and different varieties of red and yellow pulp plums. In the last two years, we have started packing peaches, nectarines, and plums from Greece. Thanks to the close and constant collaboration with trusted professionals in areas territorially suited to producing these fruits, it is a growing work. Finally, to ensure our goods are also in counter- season, we load plums by sea from Chile to supply our customers with the best fruit almost every year.
Packaging
We use carton, wood, or plastic packaging for our plums, according to standard types such as:
- 9 kgs bulk – 2520 boxes packages for reefer containers
- 5 kgs bulk – 3200 packages for reefer containers
- baskets – 1680 packages for reefer containers (10 x 1 kg net)
Target markets
We cover large areas of the Middle East with our products, especially peaches and nectarines previously treated and specially packaged for long transits.
Plums, even more resistant fruits, allow us to ship to other countries such as India, Malaysia, and Singapore.
